Oct 2023: SKER branded signs installed on the Southern Expressway
We are grateful to the Department of Transport and Infrastructure for working with us and installing six signs along the Southern Expressway which has many wildlife hotspots. These signs aim to prompt individuals to contact SKER promptly in case of a wildlife incident. SKER has numerous rescuers based within 5-10 minutes of multiple Expressway entrances/exits so are best placed to respond to reports.
The response we have received from the community has been amazing with many people learning about our organisation for the first time through these signs.
There were numerous comments on social media page regarding the new signs, with a prevalent question being why the signs lacked a phone number so we wanted to explain our reasoning behind this.
This omission was deliberate, as we advocate for road safety by encouraging drivers to focus on driving at 100 km/h and avoid using their mobile devices. For safety, it's advisable to remember the name "SKER" and look up the number when it's safe. There are only six signs along all of the Southern Expressway and wildlife get hit at various locations so we recommend saving our hotline number in your phone now for easy access when needed.
