Volunteering with SKER
Volunteers are an essential part of Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue (SKER). Our volunteers remain a vital part of what allows us to care for wildlife, support our veterinary team and continue the work we do across South Australia.
We are proud of the positive, supportive and safe culture we have built, and we take careful, considered recruitment seriously. We look for people who align with SKER’s values, can commit to the requirements of their chosen role and will contribute positively to our team and the welfare of the animals in our care.
Our volunteer recruitment is not open year-round. We generally recruit during quieter operational periods when we have the capacity to properly assess, train and onboard new volunteers. This ensures we can give new team members the support they need without compromising the care of the wildlife already relying on us.
We receive a high level of interest in volunteering with SKER, and unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone who applies. Recruitment is based on the roles we have available, our operational capacity and the needs of the organisation at the time.
Please note:
All volunteers must be 18 years or older.
We do not accept school work experience students or work experience placements.
As a science-based wildlife organisation, we have vaccination requirements to protect our wildlife, staff, volunteers and veterinary team.
Volunteer opportunities are only available when recruitment is open and suitable positions are available.
